Todoist for Chrome is the official extension of the Todoist task manager from Doist Inc. It adds tasks, saves websites and selected text as tasks and shows your plan in the browser; Todoist has a free plan and a paid Pro plan.

2 min read

Ideas and tasks often come up while you are reading something online. Todoist for Chrome lets you capture them without switching to another app, and it puts your task list one click away in the toolbar.

What you can do from Chrome

  • Quick Add: add a task with all the power of Todoist’s Quick Add, right from the extension.
  • Save websites as tasks: turn the page you are on into a task, for example to build a reading list.
  • Save text as tasks: select a passage, right-click it and save it as a task with a link back to the page.
  • Plan your day: view and organize today’s tasks as a list, a board or a calendar.
  • Complete tasks: tick tasks off without leaving your current tab.

Getting started

  1. The Download button opens Todoist for Chrome on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome, pin the icon, and log in to your Todoist account or sign up.
  3. Tasks you add appear on all your devices where Todoist is installed.

Plans

Todoist’s pricing page lists a free plan, called Beginner, and a paid Pro plan for individuals, with team plans on top. The extension works with your account on either plan.

Data handling

The store listing discloses that the extension handles personally identifiable information and website content, which covers your account and the pages or text you choose to save. If you want to save full page content rather than a link, a web clipper such as Notion Web Clipper is a better fit. For local, file-based notes, see Obsidian.

Pros

  • Capture tasks without leaving the page
  • Save pages and quotes as linked tasks
  • Syncs with Todoist on every device

Cons

  • Needs a Todoist account
  • Some Todoist features require Pro
