Toby: Tab Manager & Session Saver is a Chrome extension from Launch Labs that saves open tabs into collections and spaces and restores them later across devices. The free Starter plan saves up to 60 tabs; paid plans remove the limit.

2 min read

Too many open tabs slow you down, but closing them feels risky. Toby lets you save them first, organized, so you can close the window without losing anything.

How it works

  1. Save: Save every tab in a window as a session with one click; Toby closes them for you, or you can keep them open. You can also drag a single tab onto your board.
  2. Organize: Group tabs into collections, and collections into spaces, for example one per client, class or research project.
  3. Restore: Reopen one tab or a whole collection from the new tab page, the side panel or the toolbar, on any computer where you sign in.

Toby also works with Chrome tab groups: you can save a group with its color and reopen it as a group.

Other useful touches

  • See all your open windows and tabs next to your saved collections, and merge all windows into one.
  • One search across spaces, collections, saved tabs and open tabs.
  • Notes on your board, with checklists and links.
  • Use Toby in Chrome’s side panel or as a pop-up.

Plans

According to Toby’s pricing page, the free Starter plan saves up to 60 tabs. Paid plans (Productivity and Team) offer unlimited saved tabs, advanced search that also covers your browsing history, and duplicate detection; the Team plan adds features such as single sign-on.

Installing it

Click Download to open Toby on the Chrome Web Store, add it to Chrome and open a new tab to see your board. For bookmarks you want to keep long term, Raindrop.io may suit you better.

Pros

  • Saves and closes a whole window of tabs in one click
  • Collections and spaces sync across computers
  • Works with Chrome tab groups

Cons

  • Free plan is limited to 60 saved tabs
  • Replaces the new tab page by default
