Intel Driver & Support Assistant (Intel DSA) is a free Intel tool that identifies Intel hardware in a Windows PC and offers driver and software updates for most of it. It runs on Windows 10 and 11 and shows results in a supported web browser.
Many PCs contain several Intel components at once: integrated or Arc graphics, a Wi-Fi adapter, Bluetooth and chipset parts. Intel Driver & Support Assistant (often shortened to Intel DSA) scans for those devices and lists the updates Intel has published for them.
How it works
Intel DSA installs a small application on Windows and presents the scan results on Intel’s support website in your browser. From there you can see which Intel products were detected, which drivers are out of date and download the updates.
Intel names Chrome, Firefox and Edge as the browsers to use with it.
Installing it
- The Download button opens Intel’s driver and support detection page.
- Download and run the installer, then return to the page and let it scan.
- Review the list of suggested updates and install the ones you need.
What it does not cover
Intel states that the tool covers most, but not all, Intel hardware and publishes a list of exclusions on its support site. It also does not support multi-session operating systems.
A tip for laptops
Laptop makers sometimes ship drivers they have adjusted for their own models. If a driver offered by Intel DSA does not install or behaves differently, compare it with the driver on your laptop maker’s support page and keep whichever works reliably. Creating a Windows restore point before larger driver updates gives you an easy way back.
Why use it instead of a generic updater?
Third-party driver updater programs often pull files from mixed sources. Intel DSA only offers drivers and software published by Intel for Intel hardware, which keeps the source clear.
Pros
- Drivers come straight from Intel
- Covers graphics, wireless and other Intel parts
- Simple scan-and-update workflow
Cons
- Some Intel products are excluded
- Results are shown in a browser rather than the app
