The NVIDIA App is a free Windows companion app from NVIDIA for GeForce RTX graphics cards. It installs Game Ready and Studio drivers, optimises game settings and records gameplay; it needs Windows 10 or 11 and a GeForce RTX 20 Series or newer GPU.

2 min read

If your PC has a GeForce RTX graphics card, the NVIDIA App is the vendor’s own tool for keeping its driver up to date. It also gathers graphics settings, recording and performance overlays into a single window, so you do not need separate utilities for each job.

What the app handles

  • Driver updates: Choose between Game Ready Drivers, which are tuned for new game releases, and Studio Drivers, which focus on stability in creative applications.
  • Graphics settings: A GPU control center for global and per-game options, including DLSS Override for supported games and Smooth Motion on GeForce RTX 50 and 40 Series cards.
  • Optimal settings: One click applies recommended in-game settings based on your GPU, CPU and display.
  • Recording: ShadowPlay can save the last 30 seconds of gameplay with Instant Replay, and RTX 40 Series owners can record in the AV1 format.
  • Overlay and filters: Show FPS and GPU usage while playing, or use Freestyle filters such as RTX HDR.

Does my graphics card qualify?

NVIDIA’s system requirements list GeForce RTX 20, 30, 40 and 50 Series GPUs, Windows 10 or Windows 11, 2 GB of system memory, 600 MB of disk space and the GeForce 551.52 driver or later. Owners of older GeForce cards can still find drivers through the manual driver search on nvidia.com.

Getting it from the right place

  1. The Download button opens the NVIDIA App page on nvidia.com.
  2. Pick the regular Windows installer, or the Windows on ARM build if your PC uses an ARM processor.
  3. Run the installer, open the app and check the Drivers section for the newest release.

Drivers offered by unofficial “driver update” websites can be outdated or bundled with unwanted software. Getting them through NVIDIA’s own app avoids that problem.

Pros

  • Official driver updates straight from NVIDIA
  • Game settings, recording and overlay in one app
  • Separate build for Windows on ARM

Cons

  • Only for GeForce RTX 20 Series and newer
  • Windows only
