DBeaver Community is a free, open-source universal database tool for Windows, macOS and Linux. Every distribution includes a bundled OpenJDK; DBeaver PRO is a separate commercial edition with a trial.
Developers who work with several databases often end up with one client per engine. DBeaver Community tries to replace them with a single SQL editor and data browser.
Who it helps
- Developers writing and testing queries against MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, SQLite and other SQL databases.
- Site owners who need to inspect or export data from a CMS database.
Installation options
- The Download button opens the official DBeaver Community download page.
- Windows (x86 or ARM): EXE installer or ZIP; also available from the Microsoft Store and Chocolatey. Windows 10 or later, or Windows Server 2016 or later.
- macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel): DMG or Homebrew Cask, on macOS 11 or later.
- Linux (x86 or ARM): DEB, RPM or TAR.GZ, plus Snap, Flatpak, an APT repository and a PPA.
All distributions include an OpenJDK bundle, so you do not have to install Java separately. If you prefer your own Java, the docs say you can delete the jre folder; DBeaver needs a recent Java version in that case.
Community vs. PRO
DBeaver Community is free and open source. DBeaver PRO is a separate edition with a trial version; it adds features such as enterprise authentication (SAML, SSO, Okta, Kerberos), NoSQL and cloud database support, an AI assistant and task scheduling.
For a lighter Windows-first tool focused on MySQL and MariaDB, see HeidiSQL. For MySQL-specific modelling, there is MySQL Workbench.
Pros
- Many SQL databases in one tool
- Java bundled with every download
- Builds for x86 and ARM on all three desktop systems
Cons
- Heavier than single-database clients
- NoSQL and enterprise features are in the paid PRO edition
