AdGuard AdBlocker is a Chrome extension from Adguard Software Limited that blocks ads, third-party trackers and known malicious pages in the browser.
AdGuard AdBlocker is the browser-extension edition of AdGuard’s filtering technology. Its Chrome Web Store listing says it blocks video ads, rich media, pop-ups, banners and text ads, and that it also cuts third-party tracking.
What the listing says it covers
- Ads on social networks, video sites and ordinary web pages
- Third-party trackers, to reduce profiling across sites
- Protection from known phishing and malware pages
- Faster page loads, because blocked elements are never downloaded
Chrome’s Manifest V3 rules limit how much any blocker can filter, so results depend on the rule sets Chrome allows. AdGuard also publishes a companion extension called AdGuard Extra for cases where regular blocking is not enough.
Adding it to Chrome
- The Download button opens the official AdGuard AdBlocker page on the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome, then confirm the permission prompt.
- Pin the shield icon from the puzzle-piece menu so you can pause blocking on a site in one click.
Privacy and cost
The developer states on the listing that it will not collect or use your data, and the listing mentions no paid plan. AdGuard sells other products, such as desktop and mobile apps, separately from this extension.
If a site breaks
Some sites refuse to load when a blocker is active. Pausing protection for that site from the toolbar icon is usually enough. For a different approach to the same job, compare it with the open-source uBlock Origin Lite or the long-running Adblock Plus.
Pros
- Blocks ads, trackers and malicious pages
- Developer states it does not collect your data
- No paid plan on the extension listing
Cons
- Manifest V3 limits what any Chrome blocker can filter
- Works only inside Chrome
Frequently Asked Questions
Does AdGuard AdBlocker collect my browsing data?
The developer says on its Chrome Web Store listing that it will not collect or use your data. Read the privacy policy linked there if you need details.
Is this the same as the AdGuard desktop app?
No. The extension filters only inside Chrome. AdGuard also sells separate apps that work system-wide, and those are different products.
