Save to Google Drive is Google's official Chrome extension for saving web content and browser screenshots to Google Drive, through a toolbar button, the right-click menu or Chrome's Print dialog.
Downloading a file and then uploading it to Google Drive takes two steps. Save to Google Drive does it in one: the page, image or document goes straight from Chrome into your Drive.
Ways to save
- Toolbar button: saves the page you are viewing.
- Right-click menu: saves links, images and HTML5 audio or video by choosing Save to Google Drive.
- Print to PDF: save a PDF of the current page through Chrome’s Print menu.
Choose the format
In the extension’s options you choose the folder in Drive and the format for saved web pages: an entire-page image (the default), a visible-area image, raw HTML, MHTML or a Google Doc. You can also convert Microsoft Office files and comma-separated files to Google Docs formats automatically.
After saving
A progress dialog lets you open the file, rename it or view it in your Drive file list, where you can organize and share it like any other file.
Installing it
- The Download button opens Save to Google Drive on the Chrome Web Store.
- Click Add to Chrome and sign in with your Google account if asked.
- To save local file:// pages or use it in Incognito, enable those options for the extension on chrome://extensions.
Data and storage
Files you save count toward your Google account’s storage. The store listing discloses that the extension handles personally identifiable and authentication information, user activity and website content. For offline access to Google Docs, see Google Docs Offline.
Pros
- Saves pages, links and media straight to Drive
- Several page formats, including Google Docs
- Automatic Office file conversion
Cons
- Uses your Google storage quota
