Ventoy is a free, open-source tool for building multiboot USB drives. The latest version is 1.1.18, released on October 9, 2026; it has Windows and Linux installers and supports ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD(x) and EFI files.
With most USB tools, you write one image, and if you need a different one you wipe the stick and start again. Ventoy changes that: you install it once, then simply copy ISO files onto the drive like ordinary files.
How Ventoy works
- Copy and boot: Drop as many ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD(x) or EFI files as fit onto the drive. At boot, Ventoy shows a menu so you can pick one.
- Wide compatibility: The developers say more than 1,400 image files have been tested, including most popular Linux distributions.
- BIOS and UEFI: It boots on legacy BIOS and UEFI systems, including Secure Boot machines.
- Large files: ISO files over 4 GB are supported.
Preparing the USB drive
- Ventoy is released on GitHub; take the newest release from the project’s releases page.
- On Windows, download the windows.zip file (about 16.7 MB), extract it and run Ventoy2Disk.exe. Linux users take the linux.tar.gz package.
- Select your USB drive and click Install. Then copy your ISO files onto the drive.
Good to know
Installing Ventoy formats the USB drive and deletes what is on it; later updates keep your ISO files. The official site, ventoy.net, also recommends checking the SHA-256 hash of the download.
Pros
- Many ISO files on one USB drive
- No need to rewrite the stick for each image
- Works on BIOS and UEFI computers
Cons
- A few images do not boot properly
- Initial installation wipes the drive
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Ventoy work on Secure Boot computers?
Yes. Ventoy boots on legacy BIOS and UEFI systems, including machines with Secure Boot enabled.
Can I keep normal files on a Ventoy USB drive?
Yes. After installation, the drive works like a normal USB stick, so you can store documents next to your ISO files.
