Sparrow Wallet is a free, open-source (Apache 2.0) Bitcoin wallet for Windows, macOS and Linux, signed by its developer Craig Raw. It supports single-sig and multisig wallets, hardware wallets over USB or air-gapped, and connections to Bitcoin Core or Electrum servers.
Sparrow is a desktop Bitcoin wallet that shows you exactly what is going on: every transaction, input and output is visible and can be labelled. It is often used as the “control centre” for a hardware wallet.
Highlights
- Single-sig and multisig: Full support for common script types and multi-key wallets.
- Hardware wallets: Works with common hardware wallets over USB and in air-gapped (QR or file) mode.
- Coin control: Choose which coins to spend and set your own fees.
- Connection choices: Public servers, your own Bitcoin Core node or a private Electrum server, with Tor built in.
- Transaction editor: Inspect and edit a transaction before broadcasting it.
Sparrow is non-custodial: keys stay on your computer or, better, on your hardware wallet.
Platforms
Windows 10 or later (installer or standalone), macOS on Apple Silicon or Intel (macOS 11 or later) and Linux packages for x86-64 and ARM64. There is also Sparrow Server for headless machines. There is no mobile version.
Download and verify
- The Download button opens sparrowwallet.com/download.
- Each release has a signed manifest. If you already run Sparrow 1.8.3 or later, drag the installer, manifest and signature onto Sparrow to verify them; otherwise use GPG as described on the download page.
Keep your seed private
Sparrow will display your seed words when you create a software wallet. Write them down offline and never share them. No developer or support volunteer will ever ask for your seed; anyone who does is trying to steal your coins.
Pros
- Detailed coin control and transaction view
- Strong hardware wallet and multisig support
- Built-in download verification
Cons
- Bitcoin only
- Desktop only
- Many options for a first-time user
