Pokémon UNITE is a free-to-start 5v5 team battle game from The Pokémon Company, developed with TiMi Studio Group. It runs on Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS, and optional purchases cover cosmetics and a battle pass.
Pokémon UNITE takes the lane-and-objective style of a mobile MOBA and fills it with Pokémon. Two teams of five defeat wild Pokémon, score points and push into the rival goal zones within a short timed match.
What a match feels like
Matches are brief compared with traditional MOBAs. You pick a Pokémon with a defined role, such as attacker, defender or supporter, level up during the match, and evolve at set levels. Teamwork decides most games: scoring alone at the wrong moment leaves you exposed.
- Roles over raw power: Each Pokémon has its own moves and a clear job, so the roster is easier to learn than a long list of heroes.
- Held items and battle items: Small loadout choices change how a Pokémon plays.
- Ranked and casual modes: Quick matches are available for learning, with ranked play for those who want a challenge.
Where to get it
The official Pokémon UNITE site links to the Nintendo eShop for Switch and to the Apple App Store and Google Play for phones. Use those links rather than third-party files. A free Pokémon Trainer Club or Nintendo account is used for sign-in depending on platform.
Free, with optional spending
The game is free to start. Purchases are mainly cosmetic items and a seasonal pass, though some Pokémon and items are unlocked with in-game currency that can also be bought. If you play on a shared device, set purchase limits.
For another team-based battle game built around quick rounds, see Valorant.
Pros
- Short team matches with clear roles
- Free to start on every platform
- Easy to learn if you know the Pokémon
Cons
- Results depend heavily on teammates
- Cosmetic and pass purchases are heavily promoted
