Phantom is a free, self-custodial crypto wallet from Phantom Technologies for iOS, Android and the Chrome, Brave and Edge browsers. It supports Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polygon, Base and HyperEVM and can be used with a Ledger hardware wallet.
Phantom began as a Solana wallet and now also handles Ethereum, Bitcoin and several other networks. It comes as a phone app and a browser extension.
Self-custody
Phantom is self-custodial: according to Phantom, it never has access to your funds. Your wallet is protected by a recovery phrase, and newer sign-up options let you create an account with your email; whichever method you choose, protect it like the key to a safe.
Networks and features
- Networks: Solana, Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polygon, Base and HyperEVM.
- Ledger support: Connect a Ledger hardware wallet so transactions must be approved on the device.
- Biometric lock: Unlock the app with Face ID or fingerprint on supported phones.
- Swaps and staking: Built-in swaps and SOL staking are available; these involve fees and the usual risks of crypto, so treat them with care.
Platforms and download
Phantom’s download page offers the extension for Chrome, Brave and Edge, and the app for iPhone and Android. The Download button opens phantom.com/download.
In app stores, the publisher is Phantom Technologies Incorporated (App Store) or Phantom Technologies, Inc. (Google Play). Fake Phantom sites are often promoted through search ads and social media posts, so type the address yourself or use the links here.
Don’t hand over your phrase
Phantom support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key, and no airdrop, “wallet sync” or refund requires it. Be careful with unknown tokens and NFTs that appear in your wallet; they are a common lure. For a wallet focused only on Solana, see Solflare.
Pros
- Solana, Ethereum and Bitcoin in one wallet
- Ledger hardware wallet support
- Phone app and browser extension
Cons
- Many trading features beyond the basic wallet
