Rainbow is a free, open-source (GPL-3.0) Ethereum wallet from Rainbow Studio, Inc. for iOS and Android, with browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Safari and Arc. It supports Ethereum mainnet, Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, Base and Zora.
Rainbow is an Ethereum wallet known for its friendly design. It started on the iPhone and now also runs on Android and as a desktop browser extension.
Networks and features
- Networks: Ethereum mainnet and the Polygon, Optimism, Arbitrum, Base and Zora networks.
- ENS names: Send to readable ENS usernames instead of long addresses.
- Watch wallets: Follow any public Ethereum address with notifications.
- dApp connections: Connect to decentralized apps through WalletConnect or the extension.
- Import: Bring an existing wallet over by importing its seed phrase.
- Open source: The Rainbow app’s code is on GitHub (rainbow-me/rainbow) under GPL-3.0.
The app also contains trading features run with partners; those carry their own risks and terms and are not needed to use Rainbow as a wallet.
Self-custody and backups
Rainbow is self-custodial. You can keep the recovery phrase yourself and, on iPhone, optionally add an iCloud backup. A cloud backup is convenient, but treat the account that holds it as part of your wallet’s security and protect it with a strong password and two-factor sign-in.
Download
The Download button opens rainbow.me/download, which links to the iPhone and Android apps and the browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Brave, Safari and Arc. In app stores, the publisher is Rainbow Studio, Inc.
Never share your recovery phrase
Rainbow support will never ask for your recovery phrase or private key. Don’t enter it on websites or in “airdrop claim” forms. For an EVM wallet that previews balance changes before you sign, see Rabby Wallet.
Pros
- Friendly design with ENS support
- Open source
- Phone app plus extensions for six browsers
Cons
- Ethereum and EVM networks only
- Trading features clutter a simple wallet
