Grand Theft Auto V is a paid open-world action game from Rockstar Games. On PC it is sold through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam and Epic Games Store, and Steam’s Legacy listing asks for 64-bit Windows 10, 4 GB of RAM and 125 GB of space.
Grand Theft Auto V follows three criminals, Michael, Franklin and Trevor, across Los Santos and the surrounding county. You switch between them during missions, drive, fly and shoot your way through heists, or ignore the story entirely and explore the large open map. For another Rockstar title with a very different setting, see Red Dead Redemption 2.
What is in the box
- Story mode: A single-player campaign built around heists and character switching.
- GTA Online: A separate multiplayer world with jobs, races and shared activities, updated regularly by Rockstar.
- Rockstar Editor: Built-in tools for recording and editing your own clips.
- Mods on PC: Community mods exist for single-player; Rockstar’s policies on them are listed on its support pages, and they should not be used in GTA Online.
Getting the PC version
- GTA V is a paid game, not free. Follow the Download button to Rockstar’s official game page, which links to the stores that sell it.

- Install the game and sign in with a Rockstar Games Social Club account for online features.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is GTA V free on PC?
No. GTA V is a paid game; the store listings charge once for the base game, and Rockstar sometimes discounts it.
Do I need to buy GTA Online separately?
Rockstar’s support pages treat GTA Online as part of the game. It needs an online account but no extra purchase beyond optional in-game currency.
