TechPowerUp GPU-Z is a free Windows utility that shows detailed information about NVIDIA, AMD, ATI and Intel graphics devices. It runs without installation, can back up a graphics card's BIOS and is free for personal and commercial use.

2 min read

Box labels and shop listings do not always tell the whole story about a graphics card. GPU-Z reads the details from the hardware itself, which helps when you are checking a second-hand card, troubleshooting or simply curious about what is in your PC.

Information at a glance

  • Graphics card tab: GPU name, memory size and type, clock speeds, driver version and more on a single screen.
  • Sensors tab: Live readings such as temperatures, clock speeds and load, useful while gaming or stress testing.
  • BIOS backup: Save a copy of your graphics card’s BIOS to a file.
  • Broad support: NVIDIA, AMD, ATI and Intel graphics devices.

Download without installing

  1. The Download button opens the official GPU-Z download page on techpowerup.com.
  2. Choose a download server and save the file.
  3. Run it directly; GPU-Z does not need to be installed, though an optional installer is offered when you start it.

Practical uses

When buying a used card, GPU-Z helps you confirm that the reported model and memory match what the seller described. During troubleshooting, the sensors tab shows whether the card is running hot or dropping its clocks under load. Leave the sensor log running in the background while you play to compare readings later.

Licence terms

GPU-Z is free for both personal and commercial use. It may not be redistributed as part of a commercial package, which is one more reason to download it from TechPowerUp rather than a third-party mirror.

Pros

  • Runs without installation
  • Detailed GPU information and live sensors
  • Free for personal and commercial use

Cons

  • Information only, no tuning controls
  • Windows only
