Fender Studio Pro is the rebranded successor to PreSonus Studio One, a DAW for Windows and macOS. Fender sells a perpetual license and lists a subscription option.

2 min read

If you have been searching for Studio One, here is the short version: Fender acquired PreSonus in 2021, and the software has since been rebranded as Fender Studio Pro. Fender’s own page says it is built on the Studio One platform, so the workflow will look familiar to existing users.

What it is

Fender Studio Pro is a digital audio workstation for recording, editing, mixing and producing music on Windows and macOS. Studio One was known for its single-window layout and drag-and-drop approach, where you can drop instruments or effects straight onto tracks.

How it is sold

  • Perpetual license: A one-time purchase for the current version. Fender says upgrading an existing Studio One Pro 7 or Fender Studio Pro perpetual license includes one year of new feature releases.
  • Subscription: A Pro+ monthly plan is also listed on Fender’s page.
  • Free options: The older Studio One Prime was offered as a free basic edition, and Fender says a separate free Fender Studio app remains for recording and demo production. Confirm what is currently available on the official page.

Getting it

  1. Press the Download button to open Fender’s product page.
  2. Choose a purchase option and create or sign in to your Fender account.
  3. Download the installer and activate it.

System requirements

Resellers list Windows 10 or 11 and a recent macOS, with at least 8 GB of RAM and plenty of drive space. Minimum versions vary by listing, so use the figures on Fender’s page for your release.

For free recording-focused alternatives, try Audacity or Tenacity.

Pros

  • Familiar Studio One workflow
  • Perpetual license available
  • Drag-and-drop editing

Cons

  • Paid software; a subscription option also exists
  • The rebrand can make older guides confusing
