War Thunder is a free online military vehicle combat game developed by Gaijin Entertainment. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux; on Windows it needs 4 GB of RAM and 70 GB of free space.
War Thunder puts you into online battles with thousands of aircraft, tanks and ships spanning from the early 20th century to the present day. As you progress through each nation’s vehicle tree, you unlock more advanced machines.

- Arcade: Quick matches with simplified controls; a good fit for beginners.
- Realistic: More detailed physics and damage models, with less aim assistance.
- Simulator: The toughest mode, with a cockpit view and realistic flight controls.
How to download
- The Download button opens the official War Thunder page on Steam. You can also install the game with its own launcher from warthunder.com.
- Sign in with your Steam account and click “Play Game”; on first launch you will be asked to link a Gaijin account.
- Tutorial missions teach aircraft and tank controls separately.
System requirements
According to Steam, the Windows minimum is 64-bit Windows 10, a 2.2 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, a DirectX 11 graphics card on the level of an AMD Radeon 77XX or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660, and 70 GB of free space. On macOS you need Catalina 10.15 or later and 6 GB of RAM.
