Dota 2 is a free MOBA released by Valve on July 9, 2013. It is played through Steam on Windows, macOS and Linux and needs 4 GB of RAM and about 60 GB of free space.
In Dota 2, two teams of five defend bases at opposite corners of the map. The goal is to destroy the enemy’s main structure, the “Ancient”. A match usually lasts somewhere between half an hour and an hour, and each player controls one of more than a hundred heroes.
Why do people play it for years?
- Every hero is free: You never have to buy a hero; the full roster is unlocked from day one.
- Deep strategy: Item builds, map control and team composition make every match different.
- Regular updates: Balance patches keep changing the game, and big tournaments such as The International support a strong esports scene.
