Planning a move, a renovation or just a new sofa layout? Sweet Home 3D lets you draw your rooms in 2D, furnish them, and see the result in 3D at the same time, without any CAD experience.

How it works

  • Draw walls and rooms: Trace a floor plan with the mouse, or import a scanned plan as a background.
  • Add doors, windows and furniture: Drag items from the catalogue and resize them to real measurements.
  • 3D view: The 3D preview updates as you work, and you can walk through the home as a virtual visitor.
  • Photos and videos: Render realistic images or a walk-through video to share.
  • Extra models: Import more furniture and objects in common 3D formats.

Download options

  1. The Download button opens the official Sweet Home 3D download page.
  2. Choose your installer: Windows (about 85 MB), macOS (about 84 MB) or Linux 64-bit (about 72 MB).
  3. Run the installer and start a new home.

The Windows and macOS installers include their own copy of Java, so there is nothing else to install. Standard Linux archives need Java set up separately, though all-in-one Linux installers are also offered. A portable archive and a browser-based online version are also listed on the official site, along with mobile apps.

Free and open source

Sweet Home 3D is distributed under the GNU General Public License, so it is free to use with no paid tiers. For more detailed 3D modelling, try SketchUp; for professional home design with construction drawings, see Chief Architect.

Pros

  • Free and open source
  • Very easy to learn
  • 2D plan and 3D view side by side

Cons

  • Not suitable for construction drawings
  • Rendering is basic compared with pro tools
