Session Buddy is a Chrome tab and session manager from sessionbuddy.com. It saves open tabs, restores previous sessions after crashes, organizes links in collections and works without an account.

2 min read

Losing a window full of tabs after a crash or an unexpected restart is frustrating. Session Buddy keeps a record of your windows and tabs so you can bring them back exactly as they were, and it doubles as a place to organize links you want to keep.

Main features

  • Save tabs instantly: save all open tabs with one click and restore them later.
  • Overview: see and control all open tabs from a single dashboard.
  • Crash recovery: tab history shows your windows as they were at a moment in time, so you can recover after crashes, restarts or accidental closing.
  • Collections: group saved tabs by topic, project or timeline, and pin important collections.
  • Search everywhere: one search covers open tabs, collections and tab history.
  • Flexible import and export: more than 15 formats, including plain text, links, JSON, CSV, Markdown and HTML.

Restoring the way you want

Sessions can be restored to their original windows, into a single window or into the current window, and you can pick just the tabs you need instead of the whole set.

How to install

  1. The Download button opens the official Session Buddy listing on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome. No sign-up is required.
  3. Open Session Buddy from the toolbar to see your current session and save it as a collection.

Privacy

The developer describes Session Buddy as privacy-first, with no accounts and no tracking. Its store listing lists the data types the extension handles, including web history, since tab history is part of what it stores. For a lighter, one-click approach, compare OneTab.

Pros

  • Reliable session recovery after crashes
  • Collections and unified search
  • Exports to many formats

Cons

  • More features than casual users need
  • Stores your tab history locally
