LinkedIn: Download the Official Job and Networking App

LinkedIn is the professional network where recruiters and employers look for people, and its phone app lets you act on a job lead the moment you see it. You can search openings, keep a profile that works as an online resume, and stay in touch with colleagues without opening a laptop.

What the app offers

• Job search and alerts: Look for roles by title, place and filters, save searches and apply from your phone.
• Profile: Add your experience, skills and photo, and ask former colleagues for recommendations.
• Network and messages: Connect with people you know and message them, including recruiters.
• Feed and learning: Read posts from your network. Courses are in the separate LinkedIn Learning app.

Setting up

Install the official app from Google Play or the App Store, then sign up with your email address or log in to an existing profile. Take time over the headline, summary and skills: recruiters search on those words. In Settings, check who can see your connections and whether you want to signal that you are open to work.

What costs money

The basic app and profile are free. LinkedIn sells Premium plans and recruiter tools; the options and prices appear in the app and vary by country, so you can ignore them unless you want extras such as seeing more about who viewed your profile.

Stay safe

Job scams are common. Real recruiters do not ask you to pay fees or move to a messaging app to share passwords. Protect the account with two-factor sign-in; Google Authenticator works for this. Pair it with a strong password from Bitwarden.
