Kraken and Kraken Pro Apps: Which One to Download

Kraken splits its software into several official apps that share one account. Picking the right one first saves you from switching later.

The Kraken apps

• Kraken: The simpler app for buying, selling and holding crypto, with a clean portfolio view.
• Kraken Pro: Charts, order books and advanced order types for active traders, on iOS and Android.
• Kraken Desktop: A dedicated trading app for Windows, macOS and Linux, available from Kraken’s download page.
• Web: The same account is reachable from kraken.com in a browser.

Payward also publishes a separate self-custody wallet app. Assets held in the exchange apps are kept by Kraken, not by you.

Before you sign up

Kraken requires identity verification, and the level of verification decides which funding methods and features you can use. Products differ between countries and US states, so check availability for where you live on the official site.

Installing safely

1. Start from kraken.com/download or the store links on this page; the developer should be Payward, Inc.
2. Bookmark the real website and avoid search ads that imitate it.
3. Turn on two-step verification. Kraken also lets you set extra protection for withdrawals in the account security settings.

Fees and funding

Trading fees and funding options differ between the simple app and Kraken Pro, and between countries. Read the fee schedule on the official site before you place an order, and start with a small test deposit so you know how transfers work before you move larger amounts.
