Cyberduck is a free, open-source (GPL) file transfer browser for macOS and Windows that supports FTP, SFTP, WebDAV, SMB, Amazon S3, Azure, Google Drive, Dropbox and more. A Cyberduck CLI is available for Linux, macOS and Windows.
Webmasters move files constantly: theme updates to a server, backups to cloud storage, images to an S3 bucket. Cyberduck handles all of those connections in one browser-style window, on both Mac and Windows.
Supported protocols and services
- Servers: FTP (including FTP over TLS), SFTP with public key and two-factor authentication, WebDAV and SMB
- Object storage: Amazon S3, Google Cloud Storage, Microsoft Azure, OpenStack Swift, Backblaze B2 and Wasabi
- Cloud drives: Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint, Box, Nextcloud and ownCloud
- Encryption: Cryptomator vaults for client-side encryption
Cyberduck can also read your existing OpenSSH configuration for SFTP connections.
Installation
- The Download button opens the official Cyberduck website.
- Download the version for Windows 10 (64-bit) or later, or for macOS 10.13 or later on Intel or Apple silicon. Cyberduck is also sold in the Mac App Store and listed in the Microsoft Store.
- Click Open Connection, choose the protocol and enter your server details.
Free, with a donation key
Cyberduck is free software licensed under the GPL. After installing or updating, it shows a donation prompt; a contribution (minimum 10 USD) gets you a registration key that disables the prompt. The separate Mountain Duck product mounts remote storage as a drive in Finder or File Explorer.
On Windows, WinSCP and FileZilla are other popular options for SFTP and FTP.
Pros
- FTP, SFTP, WebDAV and many cloud storage services
- Same app on Mac and Windows
- Free and open source
Cons
- Donation prompt until you register
- Mounting storage as a drive needs the separate Mountain Duck
