Autodesk Civil 3D is a paid BIM application for civil infrastructure design such as roads, sites and utilities. Autodesk offers a 30-day free trial; after that it requires a subscription, either on its own or in the AEC Collection.
Civil 3D is Autodesk’s design and documentation software for civil infrastructure: roads and highways, land development, grading, drainage and utilities. It is built on AutoCAD, so the drawing environment feels familiar, but it adds intelligent civil objects such as surfaces, alignments, profiles, corridors and pipe networks that update when the design changes.
What engineers use it for
- Surfaces and grading: build terrain models from survey data and calculate cut and fill.
- Corridors: model roads and other linear projects from alignments, profiles and assemblies.
- Pipe networks: lay out gravity and pressure networks for storm water, sewers and water supply.
- Quantity takeoff and documentation: produce plan and profile sheets and quantities from the model.
How to start the free trial
