AnyDesk is remote desktop software from AnyDesk Software GmbH for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS. It is free for personal use; business use requires a paid license.
AnyDesk lets you see and control another computer over the internet. In an office it is used for IT support, for reaching a work PC from home and for helping a colleague fix a setting without walking over.
How a session works
- Both computers run AnyDesk. Each one shows an AnyDesk address (an ID).
- The person giving help types the other computer’s address and clicks Connect.
- The person receiving help sees a request and clicks Accept, choosing what the other side may do.
For a PC you manage yourself, you can set up unattended access with a password so you can connect without someone at the other end.
Downloading AnyDesk
- The Download button opens AnyDesk’s official download page.
- Versions are offered for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS.
- On Windows, AnyDesk can run directly from the downloaded file for a one-off session, or be installed for regular use.
Licensing
AnyDesk is free for personal, non-commercial use. Using it at work, for customers or in a company requires a paid license; AnyDesk lists its plans on its website.
Stay safe
Scammers often pose as bank staff or tech support and ask people to install a remote desktop tool. Never accept a connection from someone who contacted you unexpectedly, and end the session if anything feels wrong.
For a free open-source option you can self-host, see RustDesk. For video meetings rather than remote control, use Zoom Workplace.
Pros
- Small download, can run without installing on Windows
- Works across desktop and mobile platforms
- Unattended access for your own PCs
Cons
- Commercial use requires a paid license
- Often misused by phone scammers, so users must stay alert
