Overwatch 2 Download: Blizzard’s Free 5v5 Hero Shooter

Overwatch is a team shooter in which two teams of five pick heroes with very different abilities and fight over objectives: escorting a payload, capturing points or pushing a robot across the map. The game launched as Overwatch 2 in 2022; Blizzard now lists it simply as Overwatch on Steam and its official site, but it is the same free game.

How does it play?

• Roles: Each team has one Tank, two Damage and two Support heroes, so everyone has a clear job.
• Hero switching: You can change heroes during a match to counter the other team.
• Modes: Quick Play, Competitive, Arcade and limited-time events.
• Seasons: New heroes, maps and balance changes arrive with each season.

Steam or Battle.net?

1. Either works. The Download button points to the Steam listing; Blizzard’s own Battle.net app installs the same game.
2. Click “Play Game” in Steam; on first launch you will be asked to link a Battle.net account, which is free.
3. The practice range and the first matches against AI help you learn the controls.

System requirements

According to Steam, the minimum is 64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i3 or AMD Phenom X3 8650, 6 GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600 series or AMD Radeon HD 7000 series graphics card with DirectX 11, and 50 GB of free space.

Purchases cover cosmetics and the premium battle pass. New heroes can be unlocked for free through the battle pass track.
