CPU-Z is a freeware system information tool for Windows developed by CPUID. The latest version is 3.01, released on August 20, 2026, and it is fully supported on Windows 11.
Want to know exactly which processor is in your PC, how fast your RAM is running or which motherboard you have before buying an upgrade? CPU-Z answers those questions in a few seconds, without opening the case.
What does CPU-Z show?
- CPU tab: Processor name, codename, process, package, core count and cache levels.
- Mainboard tab: Motherboard model, chipset and BIOS version.
- Memory and SPD tabs: RAM type, size, timings and the details of each installed module.
- Graphics tab: Basic information on your graphics card.
- Bench: A quick built-in benchmark for single-thread and multi-thread performance.
Installing CPU-Z
- Go to the CPU-Z page on cpuid.com, the developer’s own site.
- Choose the classic Windows version in either the setup (installer) or zip (portable) format, and your preferred language.
- Run CPU-Z; the information appears immediately.
Which edition to download
Besides the classic CPU-Z, cpuid.com lists customized editions for hardware brands such as ASUS ROG, MSI Gaming and Gigabyte AORUS. They show the same information with a different skin, so the classic version is the sensible default on any PC. The setup package installs the right 32-bit or 64-bit program for your system automatically; with the zip, you pick the bit version yourself.
CPU-Z can also publish your specifications online. Its validation feature uploads a snapshot of your hardware to CPUID’s validator site, which overclockers use to prove a clock speed or share a build, while pressing F7 saves the validation file to the current folder instead of sending it.
Safe use
CPU-Z is read-only: it reports information and does not change any settings. Its maker also publishes HWMonitor for temperatures and sensor readings. Download it from cpuid.com, because unofficial copies are sometimes bundled with unwanted extras.
Pros
- Detailed CPU, memory and motherboard information
- Portable zip version available
- Very lightweight
Cons
- No temperature or sensor monitoring
- Windows only
