Counter-Strike 2 is a free-to-play, team-based FPS from Valve, played through Steam. It needs Windows 10 or Linux, 8 GB of RAM and about 85 GB of free space; ranked matches require the paid Prime Status upgrade.
Counter-Strike 2 replaced CS:GO on September 27, 2023, moving the series to the Source 2 engine. The core rules are unchanged: the Terrorists try to plant the bomb, and the Counter-Terrorists try to stop them or defuse it.
What changed?
- Source 2 engine: More realistic lighting, reworked maps and a sharper image.
- Smoke grenades: Smoke now spreads to fit its surroundings and can be cleared briefly by bullets and explosions.
- Sub-tick system: The moment you fire is recorded regardless of the server’s tick rate.
- Premier mode: Rating-based ranked play with a map pick-and-ban phase.
